Mom’s Blanket
This was started by asking my mom what she may like if I did a project with the intention of giving it to her when it was done. She answered with a small blanket with which she could use to drape upon herself while it was drafty during the Northern Winters. I showed her all of the swatches of knit material I had been sampling out for the baby blanket (my amalgamation of a first project – still not yet completed) and she chose a stitch, called a diagonal ripple stitch, which she thought was very pretty.

I made up my mind that this was to be my project to get the feel for circular knitting needles for a flat piece of work. Against my future better judgment, I chose size 8 needles. Very small stitches for such a large item. If I had the beginning to do over again, I would have chosen much larger needles and double stranded it all the way through to make the whole thing churn out faster than it does. So this became another of my projects that sits on the back burner every so many weeks for a month at a time. I pick it up for a couple weeks, then I have to just let it sit there and do other things. It will be really nice once it’s finally done, as with everything else.
