Back Up and Writing
I smoke too much. I smoke when I don’t know what to do. I smoke when I do know what to do. I smoke and I smoke and I smoke. I need to knock that the hell off. Such a naturalist, aren’t I.
So I got my old computer running again from back in 2000. It’s so virus and disease ridden but I saved it anyway. Marla thought it would be a nice idea to get it set up so that I could keep it in the bedroom, like hers, and I might be inspired to write again. I haven’t kept a solid “journal” in years. There was a time when I used to write about everything in my life. I had the desire to keep a running record of everything that was going on. Must have been a teenage thing. Fun filled drama and depression.
That tapered off when it began to be the same thing over and over anymore.
But, my main gripe is that these new sites take away all the creativity of it. Myspace, Tagged, bullshit face, the list goes on. They give you your profile to fill out in their pre-ordained boxes and toilets and then you merely go hunting for codes to copy and paste into your editing to “personalize” it with everything everybody else created. It’s so amazing and sad. My old friends and I used to learn our own codes to make our pages do unique things. And we laid the pages out ourselves, too. And it wasn’t hard…ah, you can read about that in my other post entitled Blogging…
But, before I got sidetracked, Marla came up with the idea to set up my computer and I thought it was a wonderful idea as well. So we set out trying to get the desk moved in our bedroom. Three hours later the desk was here and the bed was piled sky high with clutter. Then it hit that I couldn’t find my power cords since we’d moved. That took us to the thrift store to buy cords which, luckily, they still had. Came home and discovered the keyboard was missing. Hunted for hours for it until I gave up and decided to go buy one. Tried Big Lots first and found that their electronics section had drastically decreased to the point that all they had were blank cds. Then went to Office Depot and saw that their cheapest was 25 bucks. Then settled with Wal-Mart (which that’s another evil rant waiting to happen) where they happened to have the one I’m using now for just under 10 bucks. I hate Wal-Mart.
Then, a few more hours of cleaning and our room was remotely straightened again, as straight as it gets with all of our clutter and lack of space and furniture…But what a day it was to put this computer on the table…
